As we attempt to break down the heteronormative mindset of society, we have to acknowledge how inherently flawed and heteronormative this law is. The law normalizes the idea that someone can believe solely and exclusively in marriage between a man and a woman. This normalizes the idea that it's okay to be heteronormative and literally puts it into law. Another part of this law that is actually so upsetting is how it defines man and woman. It defines man and woman by "an individual's immutable biological sex as objectively determined by anatomy and genetics at the time of birth." This definition completely undermines anyone that identifies as trans and encourages the idea that the reality of being trans is not valid. This definition is also just an example of pure ignorance. I feel completely taken aback that in 2016 we still do not understand the difference in language and meaning between man and woman, and male and female. As a queer woman in the south, I'm watching more and more bills like those in north carolina and mississippi and wondering what this means for the future. I cannot believe that bills legalizing discrimination are actually being passed. <br />Kate Bouldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00695672097326290292noreply@blogger.com
